Irish Soda Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 C. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 tsp. Clabber Girl® Baking Soda
  • 1/4 C. packed brown sugar’
  • 1 Tbsp. Spice Islands® Caraway Seeds
  • 2 C. raisins, rinsed in hot water and dried
  • 1 tsp. orange zest (optional)
  • 4 Tbsp. butter, cold
  • 1 egg
  • 2 C. buttermilk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Whisk together flour, salt, baking soda, brown sugar, caraway seeds, raisins, and orange zest.
  3. Cut in cold butter with a pastry blender or two forks until the butter pieces are pea sized.
  4. Add eggs and buttermilk and stir until thoroughly combined.
  5. Knead on floured board 10 or 12 strokes; roll or pat out to 1/2-inch thickness.
  6. Cut with round 2-inch biscuit cutter and place on baking sheets.
  7. Bake 15-18 minutes. Cool on wire racks when done.
